Barn Manager/Horse Caretaker: Rachel Daley

When I was 11 years old, I began feeding at a barn near my house. This gave me the chance to be around horses without owning my own.

At least, not yet! She came around several years later. I continued to help at that barn until I went away to college. Because of my love of horses and the experiences at the barn, I chose to pursue a career involving horses. I decided to major in equine facility management at Lake Eve College. With this major, came everything from feeding, riding, and grooming to driving a tractor, putting up fences, pasture management, and several other horse-related areas.

While at lake Erie College, I completed an internship with the facility manager at a therapeutic riding center. Along with the normal duties of feeding, cleaning stalls, and turning out horses, I volunteered with classes and their Equine Management Team. This team evaluated a new horses ability to work as a therapy horse.

In 2000, I graduated from Lake Erie College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Studies. Shortly after graduation, I began working at a veterinarian’s office and I returned to the local barn to help with the morning feeding. After almost six years, I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to find a job that allowed me to work with horses again. In October of 2006, I left the office to come work at Timber Ridge Stables.
