The RICA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is designed to help non –catholics experience what it means to be Catholic so that they can choose to be Catholic or not. Generally, every August a new group gathers and prepares for Baptism, Confirmation or First Eucharist. Anyone is able to investigate the Catholic faith by attending these weekly sessions. Catholics are also welcome to accompany the non-catholic on this journey.

Do you know someone who is thinking of becoming Catholic or, at least, wants to know more about our religion? Maybe you know someone who was baptized in the Faith, but was never educated in the faith nor received First Communion or Confirmation. The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a journey of faith, spread over several months (usually August through Easter), that the Church uses to bring these folks into the Catholic faith. INFANT BAPTISM
  
Having a baby? It is most appropriate to provide children with the grace of the Sacrament of Baptism and to welcome them into the community of faith. This is usually done within six months of birth. For first time parents, formation is required regarding Christian parenting and the teaching of the Church.

It is traditional to have two “godparents”. Godparents are actually sponsors, that is, religious mentors for the child. Actually only one is required but two are common. One must be a practicing Catholic. The second one can be either another practicing Catholic or a practicing Christian of another denomination. The Catholic sponsors should provide sponsor certificates if they are from another parish. The key thing with sponsors is to be a religious example for the child.
